Obituary of Sandra J. Maloney
Sandra J. Maloney, 63, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Born in Rome on April 14, 1961, she was a daughter of the late Mela and Helen (Brzuszkiewicz) Narolis. She was a graduate of Camden High School where she proudly participated in marching band as a drum majorette as well as track and field, and volleyball. She then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from Upstate Medical Center in Medical Technology. On August 11, 1984, she was happily united in marriage to Joseph Maloney.
Sandy was a Technical Core Lab Supervisor at Rome Health where she worked for 44 years. She also worked at St. Elizabeth’s hospital for over 20 years. In 2017, she was awarded Laboratorian of the Year for her dedication to her work. There’s no doubt she loved her career and all the people she met along the way.
Sandy loved to be there, whether it was family, friends, colleagues or anyone she may have encountered. She embraced everyone she met with open arms and a warm smile. She was a bright light that burned hot and radiated love. Knowing Sandy was to know true happiness.
She was a mother, wife, sister, aunt, friend and confidant. No matter where or when, she was always there for you when you needed a good laugh or a hug.
Sandy truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, playing cards with family and friends, cooking for her many second children, and spending time with her nieces and nephews at camp. Her love for Barbie and all things pink was infectious and there was never a day without her matching jewelry.
Surviving besides her loving husband, Joe, is a son, Gavin Maloney; brother Randall and Pietra Narolis; sister Patricia and Jeff Smith; several cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers; David, Danny, and Stevie and sister-in-law Patricia (Hyde) Narolis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Lee Center. Internment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Taberg.
