Obituary of Julia A. Matt
Julia A. Matt, 86, of Taberg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2023. She was born in Rome on February 7, 1937, a daughter of the late John and Pearl (Armstrong) Collins. She was a 1954 graduate of Camden High School and on May 24, 1958, she married the love of her life, Leo E. Matt. He passed away November 13, 2016.
In 1977, Julia and her husband started Leo E. Matt Construction and in 1979 they bought Leisure Village Estates Mobile and Modular Home Sales and Service. Together they were involved in several other businesses, among them Matt’s Gravel, Taberg Tower Tubing and On the Rocks.
Julia was a longtime member of the Meeker-O’Rourke Ladies Auxiliary and avid card player. She was known as a card shark and everybody wanted to be her pitch partner. Nothing made her happier than being amongst family, sharing her smile and having a child in her lap. She was well-known for her fresh baked rolls and homemade baked beans.
She is survived by three daughters, Christine Broski, Brenda Matt and Mary Haver (Richard); three sons, Gregory Matt (Diane), Michael Matt (Tracy) and Brian Matt (Theresa); one sister, Joan Boardman; sixteen grandchildren, Ryan Matt (Kylie), Andrew Matt, Katelyn Schoettlin (Brandon), Briana Leuenberger (Jake Bach), Collin Broski, Amanda Bryson (Ryan), Martin Matt, Megan Mandryck (Jim), Sarah Matt (Jared Rasha), Dustin Matt, Allison Hilbert (Brian), Alaina Wilczek (Rich), Alexis Young (Ryan), Kyle Haver (Suejin), Carrie Redford (Taylor) and Lindsey Raczka (Andrew); twenty-two great-grandchildren and two more on the way; six sisters-in-law, Rose Gregorwich, Theresa Collins, Kathy Matt, Sara Matt, Audrey Matt and Jeannette Matt; two brothers-in-law, Alan Matt (Nancy) and Vincent Matt (Bobbi); and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six brothers, Daniel, Thomas, John, George and Frank Collins and Kenneth McDonald.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 9464 State Rt. 13, Camden, NY 13316. Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Taberg. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday, July 20th from 4-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Julia’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
