Obituary of Anna D. Smothers

Anna D. Smothers, 94, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Bethany Gardens. Born in Floyd, NY, on October 27, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Sophie (Karcz) Dosiek. She was  a graduate of Holland Patent High School. On July 28, 1951, she was united in marriage to Martin Smothers. He passed away December 9, 2004.

Anna worked for telephone company for 37 years, retiring from Verizon in 1985. 

She was a member of Transfiguration Church and the Altar and Rosary Society and formerly sang in the choir. She was a member of the South Rome Seniors and was a former member of the Pioneers with the phone company.

Anna is survived by a son, Michael Smothers (Janice); a sister, Emily Donley; six grandchildren, Ashley, Steven, Breanna, Destiney Jennifer and Crystal; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Denise Winters; a son, Steven Smothers; two sisters, Mary Lenaghen and Helen Reid; and two brothers, John and Joseph Dosiek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 29^th at 10:00 a.m. at Transfiguration Church. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, December 29^th from 4-6:00 p.m.  at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, NY 13440
