Benedict, 95, of 6296 Skinner Rd., Westmoreland, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Utica. She was born on February 22, 1913, in Williamsport, PA, the daughter of Benjamin and Amelia Garth Gilbert. She attended Rome schools. On November 3, 1934, Bessie was united in marriage with Clarence W. Benedict, Jr. Mr. Benedict died on March 6, 1993. She was employed by the Rome Developmental Center for several years, before retiring in 1976. She was previously employed by Rome Speciality Company and Victory Market. Bessie was an active golfer and bowler and loved to cook (especially applesauce and cookies). Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Chris and Bill Mihm, with whom she resided, Kathy and Louis Reese, Rome; and a son and daughter-in-law, Whitney and Jessie Benedict, Rome; eight grandchildren, Sherry, Christine, Becky, Tim, Jared, Chad, Jill, and Diane; seven great-grandchildren, Andrea, Nicole, Paul, Zachary, Elena, Victoria, and Claire. She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers. Memorial services will be held at the Resurrection Life Church on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at 1:00 PM.
