Obituary:Salvatore J. "Sam" Cania, Sr., of 157 Erie Boulevard East and Stonehedge Health and Rehabilitation Center passed away on April 7, 2008, after a long illness.
Born June 6, 1925, in Rome, he was the son of Peter and Carmella Scuderi Cania. Mr. Cania attended Rome schools. On January 24, 1946, he married Kate Strange in St. John the Baptist Church. She died on January 26, 2001. Mr. Cania retired in 1990 after working over forty years for Coccia Bros. Oil Company.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Peter Maio, Rome; three sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Kathy Cania, Boonville; Salvatore Jr. and Lisa Cania, Hannawa Falls; Frank and Becky Cania, Fairport; one sister, Rose Montana, Rome; one brother, his twin, Peter Cania, Jr., also of Rome; six grandchildren, Mari, Peter IV, Sal III, Emily, Blake, Elinor. He was predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence and Rosario.
The family extends special thanks to Sam's caregivers at Stonehedge.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 8:15 AM and a Mass of the Christain Burial at 9:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Contributions may be made in Sam's memory to Dollars for Scholars, P.O.
