Obituary:Geraldine T. Church, 92, passed away at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. Born on January 22, 1916 in Rome, the daughter of George and Anne Herbst Tolnitch. She was a 1934 graduate of the Academy of Holy Names and attended the Rome Collegiate Center. For many years she was a medical secretary for several Rome doctors.
In 1960, she married C. Kenneth Church in St. Mary's Church. In 1997 Mr. Church passed away. From 1968-1977, Gerry as active in the Oneonta area serving Hartwick College. She was a member of St. Paul's Church, Butternut Twig, Jervis Library Association, and the Rome Historical Society.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Thomas J. and Susan Church of Belvidere, TN, Mary Jane and Edward Wilson of Seneca Falls, and Cynthia and Edwin Haley of Rome; grandchildren Monica J. Haley of Virginia and Bryant Haley of Oregon; two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Harold and John Tolnitch, and sisters, Marion Lewis, Gertrude Walsh, and Patricia Hayes.
Geraldine's family wishes to thank the Eastern Star facilities of Oriskany where she resided for the past three years. Particular recognition to Sue and Sharon for their kindness as well as so many others from her Pounder Hall family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 6pm at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. A spring interment will take place in Rome Cemetery.
