Obituary:Eunice K. Baynes, 88, of Rome, died February 18, 2008, in Betsy Ross Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. She was born October 11, 1919, in Oneida, the daughter of Eric and Ada Pryor Volmer. She was a 1937 graduate of Rome Free Academy. On April 26, 1941, she married William P. Baynes. He passed away December 19, 2008. They were together since Junior High School and shared 66 years of wedded bliss.
Eunice worked at Revere Copper Products, Inc., for several years before retiring in 1979. She was a member of St. Paul's Church.
Mrs. Baynes belonged to McConnellsville Country Club and was an avid nine-hole golfer. She enjoyed many other hobbies, most especially painting.
Eunice is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Clancy, Rome; a sister, Alice Swanson, Ann Arbor, MI; three grandchildren and their spouses, Timothy Clancy, Alexandria, VA, Kate and Kenneth Thompson, Ramsey, NJ, and Maureen and Patrick Pelisson, Telluride, CO; two great-grandchildren, Brendan Michael and Maura Clancy Thompson; a special cousin, Mary Ann McInerney; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four sisters, Anita Kirk, Mary Luce, Margaret Volmer, and Shirley Wagner, and a brother, Howard Volmer.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Church in the spring. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Contributions may be made in Eunice's name to the St. Paul's Church Memorial Fund.
