Thomas Street, Rome, New York, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 in Rome Memorial Hospital with her family at her side after a brief illness. She was born April 7, 1935 in Rome the daughter of Edward and Dorothy Cheney Hildenbrandt. Joan attended St. Aloysius Academy and graduated from Rome Free Academy and St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing. On August 25,1956 she married Harold J. Burkhart, Jr. in St. Peter's Church. He died August 31, 2001. Joan was a member of St. Peter's Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Vicky and Butch Conover, Tammy Burkhart, all of Rome; Jennifer Burkhart, Atlanta, Georgia; one son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Sandra Burkhart, III, Rome; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Gail and Bernard Bartell, Ocala, Florida; Joyce Dixon, Verona; Sandra and Robert Atwood, Rome; one brother, Edward Hildenbrandt, Virginia; five grandchildren, Ryan, Alex, Jason, Clarissa, Anja; and Midge, and several nieces and nephews. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Antonio DiMarco and staff and Dr. Beth Bulawa for their devoted care and to all of the staff of 2 East at Rome Memorial Hospital, especially acknowledging the exceptional compassion and love shown to Joan by Emy, Donna, Mariah, Pattie and Ellen of 2 East and Donna, Ellie, Tracy and Kelly of ICU. Services: Funeral will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday 10:00 A.M. and St. Peter's Church 10:30A.M. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery.
