Obituary of Dale S. McGowen

 

Dale S. McGowen, 72, of Rome, NY, passed away April 6, 2024, surrounded by family. Dale was born to Arlene Fountain Gowett and Donald Durgan on August 11, 1951.  After graduating from Rome Free Academy in 1970, Dale married Gerald R. McGowen on January 23, 1971.

 

She was a stay-at-home wife, mother, and grandmother while her husband traveled the roads driving tractor trailer for 50 plus years. After Gerald’s retirement from the road, Dale and Gerald enjoyed staying home playing cards, watching TV and enjoying the company of their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family dogs.

 

Dale is survived by her daughter, Tina McGowen, son Gerald R. McGowen Jr., grandchildren Richard Boyd along with the family dogs Karly and Hershel with whom she loved dearly, Tyler (Emily Whaley) Boyd, Hannah Asch, Izaic and Maveric McGowen; great-grandchildren Paisleigh, Baylee, Madelynn, Emmett and another great-granddaughter on the way. She also leaves behind a sister Donnell “Dee” Holtzclaw of NE, brother's Mark Gowett of NC, Terry Gowett of IL, and Frank Gowett of SC., along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dale was predeceased by her husband Gerald, mother, father and stepfather Frank Gowett, and a special sister-in-law Rosemary Wilson.

 

The family would like to thank Dr.Vanderhoof and nursing staff of ICU at Oneida Health for their commitment, care, and compassion while caring for Dale.

 

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
