Obituary of Eileen M. Wierzbicki

Eileen Wierzbicki passed away on March 20, 2024 at Rome Health Residential. 

Eileen was born on February 17, 1935 in Rome, N.Y. to the late Ellsworth (Alex) J. and Florence Mintline Alexander. She belonged to Saint Peters church and graduated from Saint Aloysius Academy. Eileen had worked many jobs in her career; telephone operator, cleaned homes for Bob's janitorial, a daycare cook for hundreds of children and a teacher’s assistant. After her retirement she worked as a hospitality person for visitors and guests at the prison in Rome, NY. Eileen loved to cook and spend time with friends and family. 

Eileen is Survived by a son Edward (Maria) Uvanni of Lakeland FL, daughter Cheryl Uvanni of Rome, NY, and Gina Chilson of Horseheads, NY, son David (Colleen) Uvanni of Rome, NY, “fresh air” daughter, Helen Hogan, daughter-in-law Janet Uvanni of Rome, NY, grandchildren, Edward (Natalie) Uvanni, Melissa (Joe) Hayes, Collin (Florence) Uvanni, Alessandra Johnson, Kelly (Josh) Benjamin, Cassandra (Joe) Fusco, Kendra (Austin Williamson) Chilson, Nikki Uvanni, Derek Uvanni; great grandchildren, Julia and Lucas Hayes, Logan and Miles Benjamin, Joseph and Julianna Fusco, Elijah and Cohen Johnson, Hope, Eloise and Charlie Uvanni, Silas Williamson; a special stepdaughter, Anne Marie Knight; and many special nieces and nephews.

Eileen was predeceased by her son Kevin Uvanni in April of 2007, grandson Micheal Uvanni in 2004, son-in-law Rick Chilson in April of 2007, first husband Edward (Dick) Uvanni in August 2007, three sisters, Florence Cavanaugh in 2004, Jean O'Neill in 2008, Rita Thayer in 2017, second husband Leo Wierzbicki in 2021.

Thank you to all of the Rome Hospital ER, 2nd floor and ICU staff for your love and care. A special thanks to Rome Hospital 3rd floor loving aides, nurses, residents, activity staff and personnel. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 25th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 200 N. James St., Rome, NY 13440. Interment will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, March 24th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc, 418 N.
