Obituary of Dawn Wimberly

Dawn Wimberly, 59, of Rome, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Oneida Health Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on December 11, 1964, in Bronx, NY, the daughter of Dorothea Jackson and Vallel Wimberly.  Dawn received her nursing degree from MVCC.

Dawn was employed as a CNA for  several of the area nursing homes and later an RN for Rome Hopspital before retiring.

Dawn loved to be around her family and enjoyed cooking for them.

Surviving are her three children, Dwayne Jackson, Anthony (Nicole) McLeod II, and Danesha McLeod, all of Rome; four grandchildren, Shavaia Parry, Tyler McLeod, Tianna McCormick, and Alex McLeod; two sisters, Doreena Wimberly and Ruth (Reuben) Morgan, all of Rome; Vallel Jackson, of Syracuse and William “Mike” Jackson, of Rome; and several nieces and nephews.  Dawn was predeceased by her mother, Dorothea Jackson; her father, Vallel Wimberly; a sister, Valerie Wimberly; a nephew, Donald Wimberly; a granddaughter, Ta’Shiya McLeod; and a son-in-law, Brendan S. McCormick.
