Obituary of Mary Jane Lieber

Mary Jane Lieber, 97, of Rome, our Mother and Granny passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Rome Health with us surrounding her with our love. She was born in Rome on September 13, 1926, the daughter of the late Sumner Wickwire and Sarah Mead. On March 10, 1944, she was united in marriage to G. Harry Lieber. Since Harry’s passing in 1988, they celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary together in heaven.

Mary Jane’s first job as a teenager was at J.C. Penny in Rome where she earned $0.05 an hour. She was a homemaker until the early 1960’s when she worked at General Electric in Utica and New Hartford soldering parts for missiles. She later worked at Hickory Farms at Sangertown Mall.

She enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, knitting and being in her flower garden. She always had a jigsaw puzzle to work on along with crossword puzzles and reading.   

Mary Jane is survived by two daughters, Kathy Meus and Cindy Cingranelli (Al); a daughter-in-law, Pat Lieber; three grandchildren, Lauren Meus (Linda Skuba), Tricia Karsten (Bob) and Albert G. Cingranelli (Miki); and three great-grandchildren, Mary, Albert Y. and Macy. She was predeceased by a son, Karl Lieber.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 13^th at 7:00 p.m. at Nunn  and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440. Interment will take place in Crown Hill Memorial Park in Clinton. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the service from 4-7:00 p.m.
