Obituary of Candace A Bryant
Candace Anne Bryant died on Feb..25, 2024 at the Oneida Health Extended Care Facility where she had been a resident.for two years. Born in Rome, NY on Nov. 12, 1948, she was the daughter of the late John J.(Jack) and Pauline Helbock Bryant, beloved niece of the late Catherine Bryant and sister of Timothy Bryant, who predeceased her just two weeks ago.
A lifelong resident of McConnellsville, NY, Miss Bryant was educated in McConnellsville and Camden schools and graduated from the Mary Burnham School, Northampton, MA, and Wells College, Aurora, NY. She was a communicant of St.John the Evangelist Church in Camden.and a member of St. John’s Altar Rosary Society.
Following college, Candy as she was familiarly known, initially entered the insurance industry. However, she was soon invited to join the family business of G.W. Bryant Core Sands, Inc. in McConnellsville where she remained for over forty years. During that time she served as a director and corporation secretary, office manager and ultimately vice president. Along with her brother and their greatly valued employees, she successfully carried on that widely recognized firm which had been established by their grandfather in 1920 and then greatly expanded by their aunt, Catherine Bryant, and their father .
Candy was a talented pianist and singer and for many years was an active member of St. John’s choir. She also shared her father’s passion for boats and automobiles and greatly enjoyed the water and their various special interest cars, especially her much loved (and very fast) 1962 Chrysler 300H. She was a member of the Chrysler 300 Club, National Industrial Sand Association, Rome and Camden Chambers of Commerce, the Mohawk Valley Industrial Association, the Wells College Alumnae Association and the McConnellsville Golf Club.
Candace is survived by Helbock cousins in various parts of the country, her “cousin-brother” Bryant J. (Jerry -Susan) Farnsworrth, Camden, their four children, Sarah Ruggieri, Katie, Josh and Candy’s godson, John, and their families, all with whom she shared many happy family occasions.
Candace was a talented, keenly intelligent and capable business woman and friend and she will be warmly remembered by all who knew her. The family wishes to express special appreciation to the staff of the Oneida Health Extended Care Facility for their care and kindness.
Arrangements are through Nunn and Harper Funeral Home and a Mass and burial will take place at a later date. The family asks friends to remember Candy by listening to, or better, singing a favorite song, briefly driving just a bit over the speed limit and extending a special act of kindness to someone in need. Memorial gifts may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
