Obituary of Jeffery Mark Young, Sr.
U.S Air Force Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt)Jeffery M. Young, Sr., born on July 5, 1950, the third son of Mr. John L. and Mrs. Florence B. Young of High Springs, FL. SMSgt Young , a 1968 graduate of A.L. Mebane High School in Alachua, FL. He also attended Santa Fe Junior College in Gainesville, FL. SMSgt Young enlisted into the U.S Air Force in July, 1973, at Langley AFB, VA. SMSgt Young, an Aerospace Ground Equipment Repairman and was assigned to a unit of the Tactical Air Command. He served at Udorn Royal Tai AFB, Thailand. During his tenure he was awarded several medals, including the Air Force Meritorious medal (with 3 devices), the Air Force National Defense medal (with 1 device), the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, among others.
SMSgt Young retired with Honors from Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina on November 30, 1996.
After retiring from the military, he worked as a Technical Trainer before returning to government service in the Intelligence Community.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, watching sports and old Westerns, gardening, and hanging out with his military buddies and friends. He also loved spending time with his daughter, Jennifer, and his two granddaughters.
Jeffery Mark Young, Sr. departed this life on Monday, February 12, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. Young, Sr. and Florence Bethel Young, longtime companion, Jane Kraft, three brothers; John L. Young, Jr., James E. Young, Sr., Jacob L. Young. Sr. and 2 sisters (first set of twins), Janet E. Dobiash-Schiller and Jeanette A. Pruett.
Jeffery is survived by one daughter; Jennifer R. Gutierrez, Virginia and one son; Jeffery M Young, Jr., New Jersey, two granddaughters; Nielah R. Gutierrez and Elena R. Gutierrez; two brothers; Joseph L Young (Eva), Arlington, TX and Jeremiah R. Young, Sr. (Brigette), High Springs, FL. Three sisters; Willie B. Barnard (Brownell), Ocala, Fl, (2nd set of twins), Joyce O. Blanding, Augusta, GA, and Joyclyn R. Williams (Clarence), Ft Worth, TX. One God niece, Iryn Gamble (Eugene), Gainesville, Fl and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and close friends.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 25th at 4:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc. 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440. Interment will take place in Jacksonville National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday prior to the service from 2-4:00 p.m.
