Obituary of David Murray

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The angels came to take David F. “Dave” Murray to be with his heavenly family on February 5, 2024, at the Grand of Rome. He was born in Theresa, NY, on July 4, 1937, to George W. Murray and Mary Washburn Murray, who owned the Eagle Hotel in Philly, NY.

David retired from the Rome (NY) YMCA in 1999 after 39 years of service. He always said the Y was his second home.

David enjoyed walking. He never drove a car. He belonged to the Moose Club and was an avid shuffleboard player, loved country music, black and white movies and playing cards. He had a contagious laugh, was always willing to help and had a forgiving nature. He loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews.

He used to say, “slow down, take your time,” and best of all, “I thank you.” We’ll miss you, David.

He is survived by his brother, Michael Murray (Yvonne); three sisters, Mae Schell, Carol Faust and Beverly Verne (Henry); and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary; brothers, Gerald Murray and  George Murray II (Margaret):nieces, Valerie Murray, Myrissa Murray, and Susan Murray Bracewell; and brothers-in-law, Russell Schell and Bruse Faust.

Graveside services will be held later this spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Evans Mills, NY.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440.
