Obituary of Mamie L. Brown

Mamie L. Brown, 101, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Bethany Gardens. She was born in Brunswick, GA, on August 22, 1922, a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Smith) McArthur. On June 4, 1944, in Mt. Vernon, GA, she was united in marriage to Hadley Brown, Sr. He passed away April 29, 2010.

Mamie owned and operated Brown’s Enterprises with her late husband for many years. She was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness in Nine Mile Creek in Utica, NY, in 1949. Mrs. Brown attended five specialized schools for full time ministers called Pioneer Service School. She served in the Kingdom Halls of Rome, Boonville, and the Central Congregation in Utica.

Mamie is survived by a daughter, Edna Burke; six sons, Michael (Gail), Morris (Damaris), Horace, Hadley Jr. (Heather), Tim (Colleen), and James; twelve grandchildren, Tanya, Vonda, Jonathon, Gregory, Mamie, Curtis, Stephen, Alex, Whitney, Lea, Jean-Marc and Matthew; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Johnathon and Phillip; and six brothers and sisters.

 A Memorial Service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 585 Trenton Rd., Utica, NY, 13502, on Saturday, March 23rd at 1:30 p.m. There are no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc. 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440.
