John J. “Bubba” Britton of Rome, being the firecracker he was, left us with a bang on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at St. Luke’s Healthcare, holding the hands of his wife and son. John was born in Rome, NY, on January 28, 1961, the son of John Z. and Dorothy A. (Muscarella) Britton. He was a 1979 graduate of Rome Catholic High School.

John met his wife, Kathy Jo Lefevre, in May of 1983. They were united in marriage on September 22, 1990 in St. Mary’s of Assumption Church in Rome, NY.

After high school John worked at Wright Park Manor for 19 years. After it closed due to the base leaving, he went on to work for a few environmental companies throughout the area and in Tennessee before returning to Rome to work at International Wire until he retired due to his disability in 2014.

John coached many youth sports in Rome from Pop Warner Football, Rome National Little League where he coached his nephew Jocko’s Rome Polish Home team to a 19-1 record and the 1996 PBA Gold Cup Championship. He later coached his son in the Rome American Little League and served as league president for six years. He also managed Tyler’s Rome Youth Hockey teams.

Surviving besides his loving wife of 32 years, Kathy Jo, is his loving son, Tyler John; the love of his life, his precious granddaughter Remington Mae; two sisters, Kimberley Charchian (Daniel) and Veronica Ossont; his in-laws, Ivan and Germaine Lefevre; sisters-in-law, Debora and Craig Tuttle Denise and Gicamino “Jake” DeCarolis, Jr. and Linda Lefevre; nephews, Jason Ossont, Ryan Charchian, Jason Lefevre (Lindsey), Jocko DeCarolis (Katie); nieces, Samanatha Charchian, Jennifer Gondek (David), Kara Guy (Gery) and Heather Roberts (Cory); several great-nieces and great-nephews, whom he loved to play and instigate with; his faithful Golden, Whiskey, who never left his side; and Rose and Bella, aka Jack and Sam, to whom John loved to being Grumpy to.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers-in-law, Jeffrey W. Ossont and Ivan A. “Rick” Lefevre; and nieces Jessie Ossont and Joelle Lefevre.

John’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Stroke Unit in the ER and the staff of ICU at St. Luke’s for their exceptional care and compassion.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, July 14th, from 4-7:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, NY 13440. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in John’s memory to the MVHS Foundation Stroke Program, 1676 Sunset Ave., Utica NY 13502.
