Obituary of Frederick W. Smith

Frederick W. “Butch” Smith, 74, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023. He was born in Rome on January 25, 1949, a son of the late Frederick Smith and Helen (Frennette) Drake. He was married to Rosemary Carr.

Butch worked for HTC and the City of Rome and for the last nine years he was a volunteer at the Ava Dorfman Adult Day Care.

He was an avid sports fan and loved the NY Giants and NY Yankees.

Surviving besides his loving wife, Rosemary, is a sister, Robin Wickham (Dave); two brothers, Bernard Drake (Mary) and William Drake (Kim); five stepchildren, Mary, Tracy, Patricia, Marjorie and John; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Lillian Allen; three brothers, Donald Drake, Jr., Thomas Smith and Bruce Smith; and a stepson, Joseph Stigleman.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 18^th at 2:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440, on Thursday, May 18^th, from 12-2:00 p.m.
