Obituary of Earl H. Dibble

Please share a memory of Earl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Earl H. Dibble Sr, 82 of Taberg passed away April 6, 2023, in Oneida Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Constable, NY on January 16, 1941, to William J and Margaret E Hunt Dibble. Earl moved to Rome, NY as a young man and worked the muck fields of South James St. He then worked at Pat’s Tire and later at Rome Strip Steel where he worked many years until retirement. In his younger days you could find Earl with his brothers at Utica Rome Speedway working on cars with Richie Evans and Speed Williamson. The need for speed sometimes carried over into the streets where him and his buddies could be found racing from Rome to North Western. He lived in North Western for many years with his first wife and two sons. On June 21, 1985, Earl was married to the love of his life Pam L. Roser. They settled in Taberg, NY where Earl would build the first of their two family homes together.

He was a hardworking man, always with a hammer, a shovel or a rake in his hands. Earl was a self-taught woodworker and skilled carpenter. He made some wonderful creations for his friends and loved ones, including walking sticks, log lamps and his famous upside-down trees. He rarely rested, even when his body was in pain and his back was burnt from working out in the sun. His dream was to build a log cabin and along with the help from friends and family he made that dream come true.

Earl was a true outdoorsman, with a passion for hunting, fishing, camping and working on any projects that kept him outside with nature. Some of his favorite places to be, were hunting camp in Avoca, NY, with the Karge Brothers Mike, Jason, Steve & Scott, the Adirondacks hunting and hiking on Moose River Plains or camping at Nick’s Lake, where family memories were made, and lasting friendships were created. It was there where he acquired his love for fly fishing and learned to tie his own flies. He passed on his love and passion for camping, canoeing and taught his survival skills to all his children and their friends. In 2019 at the age of 78, Earl shot a NY State record breaking 12-point buck. Another one of his dreams come true. Earl was the kindest and most genuine man you could know. He was a straight shooter and dedicated family man.

Earl belonged to the Point Rock Fish & Game Club, Taberg Methodist Church, NYS Big Buck Club, 6K Buck Club, which he entered every year and where he loved to gather with his sons and “the boys” and share hunting stories and wisdom. He was a past member of Taberg Trailblazers where he cooked many chicken BBQ’s. He was a “Lone Wolf” motorcycle rider and enjoyed many trips to Vermont, Maine and all over NY with his wife and friends Frank & Shirley Beckler, Gordy & Lorraine Bryan, Roger & Bonnie Mahl, Bob Mahl, Charlie & Kathy Goetz and his daughter.

He is survived by his wife Pam Dibble, of Taberg, his children: Earl Dibble Jr. of Virginia, Shane Dibble (& Heather) of Westernville, Jennifer Dibble-Hunt of Taberg, James Dibble (& Cortney) of Blossvale, Jon & Sarah Dibble of Taberg. His grandchildren: Cole Dibble (&Destiny), Julianna Hunt (& Jacob), Savannah Hunt, Cheyanne Hunt, Harley Dibble, Auburn Dibble, Evan Dibble, Jacob Hoag, Morgan “Little Buddy” Dibble and Lilianna “Happy Face” Dibble. His step grandchildren: Erica Jo Davis, Tiffany Hernandez-Davis, Connor Vollmer & Bella Vollmer. His brothers and sisters: Art Dibble, Bob & Linda Dibble, Bud & Shirley Dibble, Grace Phetterplace, Karen Mahl (& Steve), Lauri & Paul Vanderwarker, Ed Roser, Skip & April Roser and by his mother-in-law Kathy Roser. He leaves behind many nieces & nephews, and close friends Dan Burke, Jim Burke and Craig & Nancy Annis along with two beloved pets Ellie and Luna. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers James E Dibble and Walter T Dibble, and two grandsons, Jeromie Davis and Isaac J Dibble and father-in-law Carl Roser Sr.

The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Karen Scales, Dr. Vanderhoof and his staff at Oneida Hospital, both the ICU and ER, along with the Taberg Vol. Fire Dept. Upon Earl’s request there will be no calling hours. A church service will be held Saturday April 15, 2023 at 1:00pm at The Methodist Church of Taberg. Friends & Family are invited to gather at a “Celebration of Life” for Earl at the Moran Post American Legion of Camden, NY on Saturday April 15, 2023 at 2:00pm.
