Obituary of Gregory J. Howe
Gregory “Greg” Jon Howe, 69, of Blossvale, NY, passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2023. Greg, along with his twin brother Timothy, were born in Marquette, Michigan on July 22, 1953 to the Marian (Jarvi) and Norman Howe.
Greg graduated from Negaunee High School in 1971, where he was very active, playing football and baseball on the “One Man Team.” After graduation, Greg enlisted with the United States Air Force. He completed his initial assignment at Kadena AFB in Okinawa Japan before joining the 485th Electrical Installation Squadron at Griffiss AFB performing antenna maintenance and installation. After his four years of service Greg was honorably discharged from the Air Force and began his civilian career at Tilden Mine in Ishpeming, MI for one year. Greg then returned to Griffiss AFB where he would spend the remainder of his 33-year civilian career working as a Cable Splicer and Communication Specialist. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Greg remained an active member of the Henry P. Smith Post #24 of the American Legion in Rome, New York. During his 44 years of legion membership, Greg acted in many roles, including that of Post Commander, Post Adjunct, Finance Officer, and Bar Steward.
Greg leaves behind his wife Katherine “Kathy” and his son Andrew “Andy” (Maryanne) Howe; sisters Linda (Al) Keto and Karen (Doug) Pascoe; brother Randall “Randy” (Elissa) Howe; step-mother Dorian Howe; brother-in-Law Augustus (Ellen) Miller; numerous friends including Addison (Heather) Warner, Paulette (Jim) Walker and Dave Seaton; and many loved and cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews. Greg was predeceased by his infant brother Andrew Paul Howe, twin brother Timothy Alan Howe, mother Marian L. Howe, father Norman O. Howe, father-in-law George J. Miller, mother-in-law Ruth L. (Bronson) Miller and sister-in-law Nancy (Miller) Heuer.
Greg’s family would like to thank Jodi Wallace of Rome Memorial Hospital, and the staff of Hospice & Palliative Care for their exceptional care and compassion, as well as the many dear friends that have called and visited.
In accordance with Greg’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Post #24 of the Rome American Legion, in memory of Greg.
