Obituary of Rose Marie Rutz
Rose Marie Rutz, 88, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Rome Health. She was born in Rome on April 29, 1934, a daughter of the late Francis and Rose (Netzband) Waller. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, Class of 1951, and on August 12, 1955, she was united in marriage to William A. Rutz. He passed away July 19, 1996.
Rose Marie worked as a bookkeeper for Best Way Lines from 1951-74 and Dewitt Transportation from 1974-79, before joining Rome Savings Bank in 1979 and retiring in 2004 as their Auditor. In retirement she became active in the South Rome Senior Center and served as their treasurer for 12 years starting in 2012. She organized many bus trips for the Center, most memorably their visit to Washington, DC, and the White House. Most Thursdays you could find her there playing pinochle.
She and her husband Bill enjoyed boating and fishing out of Sackets Harbor, NY, on Lake Ontario. They also spent many years of RV traveling along the East Coast. Her most enjoyable trip was to Alaska with their friends.
Rose Marie is survived by two brothers, Francis Waller and James Waller; two step-children, Walter Rutz (Mary) and Wanda Antilla; nineteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by step-children Wayne Rutz, William Rutz and Warren Rutz; and a grandson, Mark Mooney.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6th at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 502 W. Chestnut St., Rome NY 13440. Interment will take place in Rome Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Rose’s memory to the South Rome Senior Center, 112 Ridge St., Rome NY 13440
