Obituary of Robert J. Grems

Robert J. Grems, 85, of Floyd, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Bethany Gardens in Rome. He was born in Rome on November 8, 1937, a son of the late Ralph and Reba (Griffiths) Grems. He graduated from Holland Patent High School in 1955. On August 29, 1959, he was united in marriage to Bertha Scofield, a blessed union of 63 years.

Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956 and was stationed at Da Nang Air Force Base during the Vietnam War. He proudly served for 22 years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt) in 1978. After being Honorably Discharged, Bob worked many years for UAP Engine Rebuilders in Utica.

He was a longtime volunteer at the Floyd Field days where you could find him at the cotton candy or soda stand. When he was chasing his grandchildren in sports, Bob was deeply involved in his family’s genealogy.

Surviving besides his loving wife, Bertha, is a son, Jeffrey Grems; special daughter, Jessica Bridge (Bruce); two sisters, June Almond and Diane Hale (Albert); three brothers, Roger Grems (Ann), Wayne Grems (Carol) and Dale Grems (Sharon); five grandchildren, Dylan Grems, Emily Delong, Chloe Raut, and Brady and Lucas Bridge; two grand-puppies, Koda and Kane; special friends who were family, Richard and Jennifer Cotton and Lisa and Don Davis; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Thrasher; and two brothers, Ralph and Kenneth.  

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21^st, at 6:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc. 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440. Interment will take place in Townsend Cemetery in the spring. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the service from 3-6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bob’s memory to the Bethany Gardens Activities Fund or the Floyd Fire Department.
