Washington St., Rome, New York, died Friday June1, 2007 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford after a brief illness. She was born August 3, 1919 in Rome the daughter of Edward and Evelyn Bowers Strowbridge. Shirley was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. On October 12, 1940, she married Francis Harper in St. Peter's Church. He died February 12, 1981. Mrs. Harper resided in Port St. Lucie, Florida from 1973 and returned to Rome in 2005. Shirley held various jobs in the banking industry, which included Oneida County Savings Bank, Rome and Jensen Beach Bank, Florida. She was a member of St. Peter's Church and while in Florida a member of St. Marks the Evangelist Church, Ft. Pierce, Florida. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Suzanne (Sue) Obirst, Liverpool; Patricia (Patty) and Dave Urban, Baldwinsville; Katherine (Kathy) and Tom Bubon,Tucson, Arizona; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John (Jack) and Joan Harper, Rome; F. Bernard (Birnie) and Denise Harper, Charlotte, North Carolina; Michael (Mike) Harper, Tucson; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Shirley's family would like to thank Dr. Parker, Dr Erim and her staff and the staff's at Rome Memorial Hospital and Faxton- St. Luke's' Healthcare for their compassionate care shown to her. Services: Funeral will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome Monday 9:15A.M. and St. Peter's Church 10:00A.M. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 1:00P.M. to 3:00P.M. Sunday. Contributions may be made in Shirley's memory to the Rome Home.
