Obituary of Lise A. Bauer
Lise A. Bauer, 56, of Rome, an employee of Defense Finance Accounting Service for 17 years until her recent retirement, died Thursday, December 8, 2022, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born March 16, 1966, in Utica, she was a daughter of Lionel and Patricia Topa Major. Lise graduated from Utica Free Academy and Fashion Institute of Technology, New York City. On October 4, 1997, she married Michael J. Bauer in Historic Old St. John’s Church, Utica.
Before working at DFAS, Lise was employed at Cater Lincoln Mercury. Lise enjoyed sewing and altering dance costumes and prom gowns. She was skilled as a baker and made many cakes for weddings and other special occasions. Lise kept family Polish traditions alive by making babka and pierogi during the holiday season.
Lise was a member of St. Peter’s Church, and was previously a member of Historic Old St. John’s Church.
Surviving besides her husband Michael are a daughter, Olivia Bauer, of Rome; a sister, Monique Thurston, of Clark Mills; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Corinne Major.
Calling hours are 4-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, 418 N. George St., Rome NY 13440. A Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday in St. Peter’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society.
The family wishes to thank AmCare Ambulance; the oncology department of Upstate Cancer Center, especially the staff of 10E; DFAS co-workers; Lise’s friends Barb, Chris, Cindy, Danielle, Debbie, Gail, Mary and Missy; and other friends and family who lent a helping hand. Special thanks go to the Rome Fire Department, who went above and beyond the call of duty to help out.
