Obituary of Shirley A. Carro

Shirley Carro, 84, of Newburgh, NY peacefully passed away on October 13th, 2022, surrounded by loved ones, after a long illness. We are heartbroken to lose someone so special. She was a wonderful woman who will be deeply missed. She was born in Messena NY, on May 27th, 1938, to the late Mary and Raymond Jock. She attended Messena and Rome school districts. She married the love of her life, James P. Carro on September 4th, 1954.

Shirley retired after many years of devotion as a wire inspector to Varflex Corporation in Rome, NY. She was also a proud owner of Stumble Inn Restaurant in White Lake, NY. In her pass time, she loved her Bingo. She enjoyed going for rides with her family to deer and bird watch. She enjoyed watching criminal TV shows, especially if it involved the mafia. She was a long-time member of Saint Peter’s Church in Rome, NY.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James P. Carro of Rome, NY; a brother, Richard Tobin of Florida; and her three brother-in-law’s, John Carro of Florida, Patsy “Bones” Carro of Arizona, and Andrew Decarolis of Rome, NY.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Mahmood and her husband Khalid, of Newburgh, NY; her two sons, James Carro, of Rome, NY, and Tony Carro and his wife Sandy, of Taberg, NY; her four Granddaughters, Kimberley Favata and her husband Christian of Kerhonkson, NY, Carrie Cerjan and her wife Jessica of Wallkill, NY, Mackenzie Stuckey and her husband Cody of Rome, NY,  and Jennifer Carro of Clark Mills, NY; her one and only, very special great granddaughter, Dominique Lourdes Gonzalez of New Paltz, NY; a devoted sister-in-law Dolores Decarolis of Rome, NY; numerous very much loved nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews; her dearest friend, Gaye Boiko of Rome, NY. Her brother Robert Jock and his wife Cindy of Rome, NY.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Orange and Sullivan, for providing her and the entire family with wonderful care and comfort during this difficult time

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 22nd at 10:30 a.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, NY 13440. Interment will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday, October 21st, from 4-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shirley’s name, to the Humane Society of Rome, NY at www.humanesocietyrome.com.
