Obituary: Edward Richard "Dick" Uvanni, 77, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at Crouse Irving Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on June 21, 1930, in Rome, the son of Frank W. and Concepta M. Uvanni. Dick was a graduate of Rome Free Academy in 1948. On November 22, 1996, he married Amy Dixon.
Dick owned and operated the El Chico Restaurant at 6611 Martin St. He proudly served his country for three years in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a member of St. John's Church, Stanwix Men's Club, the Elks Club, and the Vernon-Verona Gun Club.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Amy; are two daughters, Cheryl Uvanni, Rome, and Gina Chilson, Horseheads; two sons and three daughters-in-law, David and Colleen Uvanni, Rome, Edward and Maria Uvanni, Lakeland, FL, and Janet Uvanni, Rome; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Gloria Uvanni, Richmond, VA, and Joseph and Jan Uvanni, Rome; nine grandchildren, Edward T., Melissa, Alexandria, Collin, Kelly, Kendra, Nicki, Derek, and Cassandra; three great-grandchildren, Elijah, Lucas, and Julia; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Monica "Moe-Moe" and Michael DeCarlo, North Bay; his mother-in-law, Jessie Collins, North Bay; his loving pet, Be-Be; and best friend, Bubba. Dick was predeceased by his son, Kevin Uvanni, his grandson, Sgt. Michael Uvanni, U.S. Marine Corps, and his son-in-law, Rick Chilson.
Dick's family wishes to extend their special thanks and appreciations to Dr. Barker, Dr. Damron and the staff at the Intensive Care Unit at Crouse Irving Hospital for all their kindness and loving care.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 27, 2007, at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, at 10:15 AM and 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church. Interment St. John's Cemetery. Friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Contributions may be made in Dick's memory to the Rome Animal Shelter or the American Cancer Society.
