Obituary of Susan C. Rashid

Susan Rashid, 78, passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2022 with her loving family by her side. Susan was born on January 14, 1944 in Hull, England. She came to the United States in 1970 and moved to Rome, NY in 1978.

Susan worked for the Oneida County Office of the Aging from 1987 until just a few weeks before her passing. She took pride in her work and looked forward to helping people each day.

She was a member of the Rome Wesleyan Church and was deeply rooted in her faith.

Susan leaves behind her loving husband of 57 years, Dr. Amjad Rashid and her children, Zarina Smith (Vincent Forester), Kit Rashid, Nadia Rashid (Jerry Howard, Jr.) and Amjad (Tony) Rashid, Jr. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, all of whom she cherished spending time with and loved dearly: Noah Rodriguez, Jonah Howard, Alexander and Meghann Smith, Virginia and Molly Forester and Rowan and Liam Desjardins. Susan also leaves behind two brothers, Paul and Tony Grainger and a sister-in-law, Shirin Rashid, with whom she had a special bond. She was predeceased by her parents, Ida and Gordon Grainger, as well as a younger brother, Timothy Grainger.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Atillio and Dr. Ajay Goel, both of Rome, as well as  Dr. Stephen Graziano of Upstate Cancer Center in Oneida, for the kindness, compassion and excellent medical care that was shown during Susan’s illness. They would also like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care for their constant support and compassion that was shown to Susan as well as her family.
