Penelope J. “Penny” Gray, 83, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Albany Medical Center after major surgery. Born in Akron, OH, on June 11, 1939, she was the daughter of the late George and Rose (Garber) Jackson. She was a graduate of Stow High School and attended Kent State University. On April 8, 1960, she was united in marriage to William A. Gray, Jr., a blessed union of 62 years.

Penny truly loved and appreciated her church, the First United Methodist Church in Rome, NY.  She lived a life dedicated to God, Jesus, and helping people. She loved Sew Blest, Worship Without Walls, Bible studies and Sunday services. Penny never met a person she didn’t respect. 

Penny is survived by her loving husband, Bill; three sons, William III (Lisa), Robert (Lesli), and David; three brothers including her twin, George Jackson, Lynn Jackson (Paula) and Michael “Mic” Jackson (Sandy); six grandchildren, William IV, Alexandria, Olivia, Maxwell, Ian, and Avery; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah, and grandson, Will.

Within the coming months, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at First United Methodist Church. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Penny’s memory to the First United Methodist Church, 400 N. George St., Rome, NY 13440.
