Obituary of Theresa I. Chmielewski

Theresa I. Chmielewski, 89, of Ava, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 26, 2022. She was born in Rome on March 14, 1933, a daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Redman) Donlon. Theresa worked at the Masonic Home for many years. She was an avid Bingo player and looked forward to going to on her bi-weekly trips to the casino to try her luck. She was known in the family as a wonderful baker, whether it be her famous pies or breads, or her magical mayo birthday cakes. Theresa is survived by two daughters, Dana Targosz (Robert Jr.) and Judy Hilts (Henry); three sons, Tom Chmielewski (Nancy), John Chmielewski (Corey) and Peter Chmielewski; a sister, Kathleen Leyva; a brother, Dale Pannunzio; twenty-two grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her long-time companion, Richard Karolac; and five children, Pauline Chmielewski, Elaine Walker, Mary Howland, Brenda Sorrell and Larry Chmielewski. Theresa’s family would like to thank the wonderful folks at Hospice and Palliative Care for their amazing care and compassion. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4227 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St. Rome.
