Obituary of Emma Jane Rena

Emma McCormick Rena passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born March 24, 1949, in Rome, the daughter of the late Harry and Evangeline McCormick. She attended Rome Free Academy and MVCC. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from SUNY Empire at Saratoga Springs, NY. Emma worked for the Federal Government for forty-three years until her retirement in 2013. She was an office manager, then restaurant manager of the NAF Contrails Restaurant for twelve years and then worked as a contract specialist and contract officer for the Department of the Air Force. Emma was the former secretary of the Mohawk Valley branch of the Restaurant Society, member of the Red Hat Society “Belles of Rome” and received the Robert Decker Award for Outstanding Contract Support. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Verona, NY. Emma is survived by a son, Jeffrey S. Christman (Kim); a sister, Elaine Mead; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Bryan, Corey, Dani and Brandon; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Crystal Medlin. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 4th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Verona, NY. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Emma’s memory may be made to the Rome Humane Society, 6247 Lamphear Rd., Rome, NY 13440. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
