Obituary of Thomas M. Box

Thomas M. Box, 44, of Rome, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on February 15, 2022 in Oneida Healthcare after a brief illness. Thomas was born in Rome Hospital on December 31, 1977, the son of Thomas W. Box and Patricia (Bowman) Box. He was a 1996 graduate of Rome Free Academy and was currently employed as a District Support Professional at the CNY DDSO. Thomas was also currently an Emergency Medical Technician at Greater Lenox Ambulance, Inc. in Canastota, NY. He was a former Fire Police Captain/EMT with the Lake Delta Fire Department . Thomas had a passion for helping others at a very early age and became a junior firefighter for Lake Delta Fire Department when he was 13. He was an active board member for the Joseph Michael Chubbuck Foundation. Tommy suffered debilitating injuries in a snowmobile accident at 14 years old on February 23, 1992, and despite his many limitations he never, ever complained and continued to be employed until his passing. He had a “heart of gold” and would do anything to help anyone, at any time, as stated by the many tributes pouring in on his behalf. Tommy leaves behind his loving mother, Patricia Box; his father, Thomas Box (Debbie); his sister, Amanda Smith (David); his brother, Ryan Box (Shannon); his nephews, Zach, Alex and Kody Smith and his nieces, Sloan and his goddaughter Elin Box, all of whom he was so proud of and loved dearly; his grandfather, Randall Bowman; his step-siblings, Ryan Allen (Stephanie) and Sarah Ferk (Danny); his lifelong friend, Jake Strohl; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, his cherished cats Theo and Indy and numerous friends that he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Thresa Bowman; and paternal grandparents, James and Joan Box. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 21st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Lee Center. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N.
