Obituary of Mercedes Marina

Mercedes Marina, 80 of Rome, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the Grand of Rome. She was born in Vieques, Puerto Rico, on February 17, 1941, a daughter of the late Juan and Petra Arzuaga. She served in the United States Air Force from 1959-63 where she met her future husband and on June 6, 1964, she was united in marriage to Luis Marina in Omaha, NE.
Mercedes was a member of St. Paul’s Church and the GALS. She was a cherished mom and loving Abuela and Bola.
Surviving besides her loving husband of 57 years, Luis, is a daughter and son-in-law, Raquel and John Ziegler; a son, David E. Marina; two cherished grandchildren, Alexis and Michael; two sisters, Eugenia Yan and Milagros Arzuaga; two brothers, Palermo and Juan Arzuaga; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Luis Marina, Jr.
Mercedes’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at The Grand for their care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 12th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mercedes’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
