Obituary of Anna M. Foster

Anna M. Foster, 86, of Stanwix Heights in Rome, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the Sieganthaler Center in New Hartford. Born on December 5, 1935, in Youngstown, OH, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Vodhanel and Anna (Tuchek) Vodhanel. She received a degree in nursing from Duquesne University and became a Registered Nurse. Anna spent her career in nursing, early on at Rome Hospital and then for the majority of her career helping patients with special needs at RDC and CNY DSO until retirement. Early in her career Anna was also involved in the Fresh Air Fund, a non-profit that funds opportunities for inner city youth to spend summers away from the city at camps and rural communities, and hosted inner city children in her home over the years. In retirement, Anna stayed involved in the community by volunteering at local literacy and life skills programs as well as helping individuals do their grocery shopping. Anna had a deep love for animals and spent a great deal of time fawning over her two fur babies, Samantha (Golden Retriever) and Daisy (Black Lab). She was an avid puzzler and spent her spare time building jigsaw puzzles and doing crosswords and sudoku puzzles. Anna also loved reading suspense books. However, later in life, her greatest joy came from spending time with her five grandchildren. Anna was a member of St. Mary’s Church of Rome. Anna is survived by her children, Douglas Foster of Stanwix Heights, James Foster and wife Celine (Boyle) of Southborough, MA, Jeff Foster of Stanwix Heights, and David Mondecar of Marietta, GA, and her five cherished grandchildren, Sarah, Caroline, and Jack Foster, and John and Jake Mondecar. She was predeceased by her daughter Anna Mondecar, also a registered nurse, three brothers, and two sisters. A Memorial Service will be held later this spring. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
