Obituary of Karen M. Lubecki

Karen M. Lubecki, 64, of Rome, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Rome Health. Born in Rome on April 23, 1957, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Joan (Loftus) McGuire. She was a 1975 graduate of Rome Catholic High and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work from Utica College in 1979. On July 7, 1977, she was united in marriage to Donald Lubecki, a blessed union of 44 years. Karen held various jobs throughout her working career, including St. Luke’s Healthcare and Parents Anonymous. She was a legal assistant at several local law firms from 1984-97. In 1997 she went to work for the Foothills Girl Scout Counsel and Girl Scouts of NY/Penn Pathway as program specialist, outdoor program manager, camp director and Director of Outdoor Initiatives, a position she held until 2016. From 2016-18 she was the YWCA of the Mohawk Valley’s Crisis Program/Compliance Director. In 2019 she became a consultant/trainer for Upstate Aquatics until retiring in 2021. Karen was a member of the American Camp Associations and a board member of the NY State Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Surviving besides her loving husband, Donald, are two sons, Matthew (Danielle) and Mark (Morgan Aley) Lubecki; three sisters, Kathleen (Frederick) Welch, Nancy (Steven Woytowich) McGuire, and Maureen (Salvatore) LaMonica; four precious grandchildren, Matteo, Alexandria, Marcus and Mason; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 13th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, 1807 Bedford St., Rome. Interment will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
