Obituary of Carl J. Holz

Carl J. Holz, 67, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford. He was born in Ilion on January 24, 1954, a son of the late Karl and Connie (Testa) Holz. On July 19, 1997, he was united in marriage to Peggy Yager. Carl owned and operated Ace Auto Repair in Rome for over 30 years. When he wasn’t working, he loved to be up at his camp on Black Lake fishing, tending to his garden and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. . In his younger days, he drove a racecar at Utica-Rome Speedway. Surviving besides his loving wife of 24 years, Peggy, are two daughters, Darlene Holz and Jessica Lindquist (Dan Gasparini); two sons, Carl “CJ” Holz Jr. (Kathleen) and Joshua Wilson (Kyrsten); three step-children, Eric Miller (Sheyla), Andrew Miller (Laura) and Teri Hassek (Jamie); four sisters, Phyllis, Debbie, Becky and Kathy; four brothers, John, James, Karl and Chris; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two siblings, Diane and Robert. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 10th at 6:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday prior to the service from 4-6:00 p.m.
