Obituary of Donald W. Koons

Donald W. Koons, Jr., 86, of Whitesboro, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 3, 2022. He was born in Rome on April 2, 1935, a son of the late Donald W. and Madeline (Fahy) Koons, Sr. Don served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1953 and was Honorably Discharged. On May 16, 1985, he was united in marriage to Christine Kaminski. Don worked at Revere Copper and Brass Co. for several years. He later went on to work at the Utica Psychiatric Center before retiring from the Central New York Psychiatric Center. Don loved the outdoors and so enjoyed his hunting, fishing and golfing. Surviving besides his loving wife, Christine, are two sons, Donald III and Scott Koons; a stepdaughter, Wendi Pazik (Tim); four sisters, Diane Brockway, Kathy Lombino, Pat Vescio (Mike) and Judy Daubach (Jeff); two brothers, Gerry Koons (Nancy) and William Kiser (Arlene); three grandchildren, Kandi Haas, Donnie Koons and Christopher Bazan; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Lou Burke, Jean Gleason and Dorothy Roth; and a brother, Joseph Koons. In keeping with Don’s wishes there are no services or calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Don’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
