Dear Coach,
Words cannot express everything you have done for Rome, and her people. Your actions defined who you were from the first time I met you playing baseball; till the years after I graduated high school, and came back to Rome in between leave from the Army. You have been, and always will be a driving force for good, justice, hard work, and the love of ones friends, neighbors, and family.
Your memory and desire to help others will continue to live on in those that you have touched, and brought into your life for more generations than I will be able to count.
I will never forget the nickname you gave me all those years ago while playing little league with Joey; for it still drives me to continue you to push forward in life to this day.
Till we meet again on the other side,
Love Always & Forever,
Adam “Workhorse” Lisser

I was only in Rome, NY for 8 months for temporary employment where I worked with Cass. She, very generously, invited me to spend Thanksgiving with her family. Everyone in the family was super welcoming to an out-of-town stranger like myself. My favorite memory of that Thanksgiving was trying to make popcorn garland around the table. The popcorn pieces were so fragile, they would break upon coming in contact with the needle attached to the string. To combat this problem, Joe grabbed a drill to drill a hole into the popcorn so it would slide onto the string smoothly without breaking. The idea seemed absolutely hilarious at the time, but worked wonderfully! While I only knew Joe for a few hours from Thanksgiving Day 2019, I still remember and cherish his lively conversation with me and ingenious technique of making popcorn garland over Thanksgiving dinner at the Fusco’s!

Deepest condolences to the family and friends of Joseph R. Fusco Jr on your loss. Grateful for the memories I have with Joe. When it was time for my ceremonial swearing in after my first re-election win, Joe had me come up to his office and Joe Griffo led the ceremony. When my band played at the Rome Historical Society,, Joe sang Hello Mary Lou with us. I'll always cherish these memories.

When I heard of Joe’s passing, I had to think of just how utterly irreplaceable he is. Joe was a giant of a man both physically and spiritually. He changed this city and all who knew him for the better. I wondered how we could ever thank him, how we could honor his memory. I think Joe would tell us to love the Lord, our families, our city, and serve them all the days of our life.
Joe, you had no idea how many people you touched while you were here. Now that you are with the Lord, may you realize just how many people loved and admired you. Until we meet again in Heaven. Thank you Joe. For everything.

2001, January 5 I lost my son. As we were making all of the arrangements for his service, Joe stepped up and helped us with the plot and the stone. It was a very cold JANUARY and there were to be no burials, the ground was so hard. Again, knowing, feeling, and experiencing our pain, because Joe knew my son, knew us, and felt the same devastation, Joe knew we couldn’t go through this trauma again in the spring and decided against all odds to bury my son. God Bless you Joe!! You are missed beyond measure and loved without exception! Thank you for everything ! Laurie, I am so so sorry.

To the family of Joseph Fusco
Joe reminds me of the fictional character~George Bailey~in that he touched so many lives. Joe’s dedication to the city he lived in, along with his love for his family, was evident in his words and deeds. When Joe was a councilman I could call him anytime, day or night, and he would be ready to help! I have never met anyone in that type of position that was so readily available, as I’m sure that I never will again! Fly high with the angels Joe, you have made your family, friends and community proud! ✨

I've known Joe since we were little kids going to Gansevoort Elementary School and riding our bikes down Camp Street. Joe's dad and my dad both worked at Griffiss AFB and our families became best of friends. Joe's dad got me interested in working on cars while hanging out at the garage on Camp Street behind my house. I even remember digging the hole for that HUGE hydraulic lift that Pops put in there. Joe Jr. later opened his own garage off South James Street and that is where he painted my car sometime around 1979. I moved away in 1981 to Rochester while Joe stayed in Rome. Nearly every time I returned to Rome I would try to meet up with him. Even when he was Mayor of Rome, Joe made time to meet with me and have coffee. One of the last times I was in Rome, I stopped at Joe's house to meet with him to drop off a piece of equipment that he had me purchase for him from Rochester, and Laurie made us some homemade pizza. We went to his shop off South James Street and he showed me the plans for the future to keep him busy in his retirement. Apparently, the Lord has other plans for you....
Joe you have been and still are a true gentleman in all that do. You are going to be missed. My mom was heartbroken to hear of your passing. May God and his Angels welcome you with open arms into the gate of Heaven and may you now rest in peace.
