Carol A. Carter, 82, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the Utica Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born in Rome on March 11, 1939, a member of the Algonquin Indian Matinnecock Tribe and was united in marriage to the late Douglas J. Carter, a Shinnecock Indian of the Algonquins. He passed away in 1993. Carol received her Associate’s Degree from Mohawk Valley Community College in Graphic Design and was a very talented artist. She was a longtime member of the Henry P. Smith Post American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and National Alliance of Native Americans. Carol is survived by three sons, Derek, Darren and David Carter; four grandchildren, Corey, Nicole, Daryll and Alex; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Daryll Carter, and seven siblings. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, December 29th from 4-6:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.
