Obituary of Jennifer P. Hinman

Jennifer P. Hinman, 66 of Rome passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 21, 2021 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford. She was born in Rome on May 6, 1955 the daughter of Hazen B. and Nancy Windrath Hinman. She was a 1973 graduate of Rome Free Academy and attended Cazenovia College.
Jenny was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and dear friend. She was blessed with a natural intelligence, quick wit and sense of humor and a most generous heart for those in need. Jenny will always be remembered by her deep voice, booming laugh-bah hah, vibrant personality and her love of nature. She enjoyed gardening, scuba diving in the Caribbean with Delta Divers, snow skiing at Woods Valley, water skiing on Lake Delta, and was a 1971 Girl’s Water Ski Champion with her cousin Cristie. She volunteered her time as a member of Lilac Twig, St. Peter’s Mission of the Christ Child, and Rome Welcome Hall. She was also a member of Lake Delta Yacht Club and loved giving friends and family wild rides in her Sea-Doo jet boat.
Jenny is survived by her three sons Edward Chentnik III, Rome; Justin Chentnik, Rochester; Benjamin Chentnik, Travelers Rest, SC; grandson Edward J. Chentnik, Rome. Also surviving Jenny are her brothers Jeffrey (Suzanne) Hinman, Enfield, NH and David (Jan) Hinman, Rome; niece Jessica (Michael) Hinman-Maher, Pleasant Valley, NY; nephews Jacob (Laurel) Hinman, Heber City, UT; John Hinman, Denver, CO and Daniel Hinman, Rome; cousin Sally Hinman, Rome; and son-in-law Daniel (Kelly) New, Denver, CO. Jenny was predeceased by her daughter Courtney Chentnik-New, her former husband Edward Chentnik II with whom she remained good friends, and her cousin Cristie Windrath Fuller.
The family would like to give special thanks to the amazing healthcare workers at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare for their outstanding care and compassion during Jenny’s illness. Also, her caregivers Donna, Robin, Jen, Betty, Cheryl and Lauri who made it possible for Jenny to remain in her home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 21st, at 11:00 a.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
