Obituary:Edith E. (Mickey) Schwartz, 87, of Cortland and formerly of Rome, died November 2, 2007, in Cortland Regional Medical Center. She was born April 20, 1920, in Auburn, NY, the daughter of Howard and Marjorie Wilson Colvin. She was a graduate of Seneca Falls High School. On March 22, 1940, she married Oscar P. Schwartz in St. Alphonsus Church in Auburn. He died November 18, 1966.
Mickey worked in the Emergency Room at Rome Memorial Hospital as a ward clerk for several years, retiring in 1980. She previously worked at General Electric in Utica, NY.
Mickey was an avid New York Yankee fan and enjoyed bowling and watching all sports. She also loved traveling and listening to music of all kinds. While living in Cortland, she was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Homer, NY.
Mrs. Schwartz is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Spink, Cortland; three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Cora Schwartz, Rome, Francis and Linda Schwartz, Blossvale, and Mark and Linda Schwartz, Camden; a sister and brother-in-law, Rita and James Quinzi, Floyd; two brothers and sisters-in-law, LaVerne and Betty Ann Colvin and Robert and Mary Colvin, all of Auburn; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Howard, Earl, Donald, and Kenneth Colvin.
Mickey's family would like to express their gratitude to the staffs at the Cortland Care Center and the Cortland Regional Medical Center for the care and compassion shown to her during her illness.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at 11:00 AM at St. Alphonsus Church in Auburn, NY. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Flemming, NY. Friends may call at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Tuesday from 4-7pm.
