Obituary of Bert J. Barrett

Bert J Barrett, 74, of Lee Center, NY passed away peacefully at his home on September 20, 2021. He was born on April 20, 1947 in Rome, NY to Bert and Mary Magdeline Barrett. He proudly served in the USMC after High School. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home and on August 17, 1968 married his high school sweetheart, Mary Bingham. They were married until her passing in January 1988. On September 25, 1999, he was united in marriage to Judy Ziemann. Bert worked for the CNYDSO in Rome for 32 years before retiring in 2002. He was a member and usher at St. Joseph’s Church in Lee Center. He was also a lifetime member of the Lee American Legion Post 1794. Bert loved to hunt especially with his son in law Todd. He also enjoyed taking care of the land that he hunted on. He enjoyed weekly visits with his friends from the Corvette Club, spending time with family and going to his grandkids activities. Bert had a special joy and excitement as he looked forward to his weekly conversations with his Granddaughter Marisa. He took pride in his house of 53 years and loved puttering around his land. Surviving besides his wife, Judy, are two daughters, Roxanne Barrett (Todd) and Traci Barrett; a son, Robert Barrett (Tiffany); six cherished grandchildren, Abby, Marisa (Christopher)Amanda, Mariah, Brody and Mary; and two step-sons, Rodney Ziemann (Nissy) and Dennis Joslyn (Sabrina). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 29th at 12:15 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 5748 Stokes-Lee Center Rd., Lee Center. Interment with Military Honors will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the church prior to the Mass from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
