Please share a memory of Lily to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lily E. Broski passed peacefully on September 15, 2021 in Rome, New York just shy of her 95th birthday. Born in Rome on October 23, 1926 to Bronislaw and Leontina Brzuszkiewicz, Lily was the youngest of seven children. She attended a little one room school house until 8th grade and then Camden High School. Lily learned about hard work as a young girl. Raised on a farm in Glenmore, she cooked, cleaned, milked cows, harvested the garden working from sunrise to sunset. After meeting Henry at a friend’s wedding, they began dating and married on June 21, 1947. They built their home in Coonrod, New York where Lily still resided. While raising their 4 girls, Lily worked at the Rome Developmental Center as a Therapy Aide. Retired in 1982, Henry and Lily continued to enjoy camping, traveling and spending time with friends until Henry died October 13, 2001.They enjoyed 54 years together. Lily always looked her best. It didn’t matter if company was coming, she was going out or going to do yardwork. Her hair was done, makeup on and she was ready for the day. Lily never went anywhere without her 24 hour lipstick and gloss. Her favorite saying: “How’s my hair?” Lily was a member of the Lee Center Auxillary, Annsville Friendship Club, Camden Villagers, and South Rome Seniors. She enjoyed the camaraderie with friends on trips, pot luck dinners, cards, and bingo. Summer outdoor concerts also helped round out Lily’s enjoyment with her friends. Lily was a woman of many talents. She loved to sew. She was a dancer, a crafter, a gardener, a cook, and a canner. Lily was an avid reader. Give Lily a fishing pole and she would always catch a fish. Lily loved to play Phase 10, Pitch and Kings in the Corner with her grandkids and friends. She would deliver her finest meals to friends when sick, send flowers to pick you up, make baskets to be raffled for fundraisers for different organizations, and help out wherever needed. The last 7 years of her life, Lily was confined to using a walker and wheelchair. Her daughters became her caregivers and made sure she continued to travel, attend her grandkids’ weddings and baby showers, senior events and hit the casinos. When the pandemic hit, Lily developed a love for puzzles and painting rocks. She painted so many rocks that she sold them and donated all the money to the Camden library. With great sadness, Lily leaves behind her 4 children: Sylvia(Michael) Ferlo, Nancy(Frederic) Mis, Joan(Robert) Stevens, Jean(Bruce) Wheeler, 10 grandchildren: Michael, Chad, Mark(Caroline) Ferlo, Elizabeth(Matthew) DiMaggio, Lindsay(Richard) Mis-Gormley, Allyson(Michael) Washburn, Patrick(Jamie) Stevens, Karen(Daniel) Roth, David(Alyssa) Stevens and James Wheeler, 15 Great Grandchildren: Emily and Sandy Ferlo, Blake, Brynlee and Nora Ferlo, Jaxson and Gracyn DiMaggio, Frederic and Lily Broski Gormley, Abbigail and Fisher Stevens, Mia, Grayson and Baby Roth and Olivia Stevens. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, a dear friend Herbert Secor and many friends.
