Obituary:Ruth F. Waters, 80, of 8100 Buena Vista Drive, Rome, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, at home with her family by her side. She was born on March 24, 1927 in Rome, the daughter of Hugh and Irene Cross Finnegan. Ruth was a graduate of St. Aloysius Academy and the Utica School of Commerce. She was employed for many years by the N.Y. State Department of Labor. On May 5, 1953 she married John F. Waters in St. Peter's Church, Rome.
Ruth was a member of St. Paul's Church, Bittersweet Twig, Teugega Country Club, Lake Delta Yacht Club and was a life member of the Delta Omega Sorority. She was a former member of McConnellsville Golf Club and the Griffiss Ski Club.
She is survived by her husband, Jack, of 54 years, two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and R. Steven Reed, Sheila and Edward Rakowski, all of Rome, and one son and daughter-in-law, John and Karen Waters, of Clinton. Also surviving are six grandsons, David, Mark and Timothy Waters, Russell and Ryan Reed, and Edward Rakowski III. She was predeceased by a son, David P. Waters, who died August 19, 1982, and by her brother, John Finnegan, and her sisters, Irene Finnegan, Sr. Rene Marie Finnegan C.S.J., Jean Tracy and Ann Hayes.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dhafir, Dr. Butala and Dr. Potluri and their staffs as well as the professional and volunteer staff at Hospice for their wonderful care and support of Ruth for many years.
Funeral services will be held at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 North George Street, Rome, on Saturday at 9.15 a.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul's Church at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul's Church Memorial Fund, Rome Catholic School Scholarship Fund or Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.
