Gail J. Carey, 80, of New London, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Albany Medical Center. She was born in Carthage, NY, on June 12, 1941, a daughter of the late Stanley and Dorothy (Getman) Moxley. She was a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School. On August 1, 1959, she was united in marriage to Andrew B. Carey, Sr. He passed away in 1992. Gail was a waitress at Vernon Downs for 27 years and also worked for many years for the Central New York DDSO. She was an active member of the New London Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary since 1959. She enjoyed playing pitch, going out dancing and going out to eat. George Jones was her second love and she had fun spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gail is survived by a daughter, Cylie Fields (Timothy); a son, Andrew Carey, Jr. (Michelle); three sisters, Lois Gregory, Debbie Gilsenan and Dawn Klein (Larry); two brothers, Stanley Moxely (Cindy) and Gary Moxely (Karlene); three grandchildren, Jessica Cimo (Frank), Danielle Fields (Anthony) and Collin Carey; two great-grandchildren, Raelene and Frankie; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Jean Hill and Donna Moxley; a brother, Lynn Moxely; and two granddaughters, Stephanie and Heather. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Sunday, August 22nd from 12-2:00 p.m.
