Obituary of Steven J. Smothers

Steven J. Smothers, 64, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home with his son by his side on Tuesday, August 10, 2021. He was born in Rome on January 20, 1957, a son of Martin and Anna (Dosiek) Smothers. He was a graduate of Rome Catholic High. Steve worked for many years at the Rome Research Lab on Griffiss Air Force Base and retired in 2018. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, steelhead fishing on the Salmon River and riding his snowmobile 100 mph every winter with his son. He was an avid football fan and loved the Cleveland Browns like his father. Steve is survived by his mother, Anna; two children, Steven Smothers (Melissa) and Ashley Smothers; his brother, Michael Smothers; good friend Roseann Sanzone and Mike Tallarico, Josh Perkowsky and Bobby Lewis, whom he thought of as sons. He was predeceased by his father, Martin; sister, Denise Winters; and the mother of his children, Linda Smothers. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Sunday, August 15th, from 3-5:00 p.m. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
