Michael John Capparelli Jr age 84 of Rome, NY passed away at home on June 4, 2021 with his loving family by his side. Mike was born to Michael John Capparelli Sr and Mae Elizabeth Capparelli on February 14, 1937 in Canastota, NY. When he was 13, his family relocated to Rome, NY. Mike was educated locally and graduated from Rome Free Academy. He was unable to attend his high school graduation ceremony however, as he was in Parris Island, South Carolina at the United States Marine Corps Boot Camp at the of age 17. Serving his country as a Marine was one of Mike’s proudest accomplishments . Mike returned home and enrolled in Utica College of Syracuse University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in physics. It was during his time at Utica College that he met his eventual bride-to-be, Patricia Ann Kolwaite. He later attended Syracuse University earning a master’s degree in business administration. Mike spent most of his professional career working at General Electric Company in Utica. He enjoyed a long and successful career there proudly working as a program manager for the US Navy E-2C Surveillance Radar Team. He retired from GE in 1993. He was an avid fitness enthusiast and regularly worked out, continuing through his 84th year. Mike is survived by his wife Patricia of 62 years. Together they raised four children that they are extremely proud of. Michael III and wife Trish of Sykesville, MD, Steven and wife Brenda of Rome, NY, Brian of Rome, NY, and Cindy Capparelli and husband Jonn Parker of Portland, OR. They also have two cherished grandchildren Kelsey Ann (Jon) Diehl and Michael IV. Mike is also survived by a sister-in-law, Alice Olejnik and loyal friend and fellow Marine John (Butch) Cordsen and wife Arlene. Mike also leaves behind his faithful, furry companion and good friend Jasper the Chihuahua. Mike was predeceased by his parents, his brother Joseph, and another faithful, furry companion, Harley the Chihuahua with whom he requested to be interred. Mike was a devoted son, loving father, and loyal friend. His love of God, his family, his friends, and his country were unparalleled. The world will be a lesser place without Mike in it. In his passing, we have all lost a staunch advocate of the traditions and values upon which this country was founded. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 12th, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome, with the Rev. Paul Angelicchio officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mike’s name to your favorite animal charity. Semper Fi. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc. 418 N. George St., Rome.
