Obituary:John J. Venturo, 82, of Rome, died Friday, October 5, 2007. On July 3, 1925, he was born the youngest of ten children to Anthony and Agnes Venturo in Rome. He was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and attended the University of Miami, FL, before pursuing a career as an electrician and joining the IBEW Local #181, where he was a member for over 40 years. On September 19, 1953 he married Lucille Bartolomeo in St. John the Baptist Church in Rome with the late Reverend Charles M. Drumm officiating.
Mr. Venturo served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater aboard the AG-127 USS Winslow during World War II. He was also a member of St. John the Baptist Church, the Toccolano Club, VFW Post 2246 of Rome, and he was a former member of the Rome Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lucille, and two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Anthony Venturo, Rochester, and David and Chrissie Venturo, Victor; a close family friend, Brian Angold, Rochester; a sister, Antonette Galluppi, Rome; a brother, Andrew Venturo, Rome; two grandchildren, Michael and Jenna; three sisters-in-law, Carmella Paccica, Utica, Josephine Ciotti, Rome, and Dorothea and Edward Sledziona, Binghamton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 10:30am at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, and 11am at St. John the Baptist Church. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-5pm.
