William P. “Bill” Izzo, 79, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Bethany Gardens in Rome. He was born in Rome on June 16, 1941, a son of the late Carmine and Anna (Ansonia) Izzo. On January 13, 1962, he was united in marriage to Kathleen P. “Cookie” Michaline. She passed away May 16, 2016. Bill and Cookie owned and operated Bill’s Variety for 50 years. He always said “Bill’s Variety was the little store with a lot to offer.” Bill was also active in youth baseball. He coached and umpired Little League games throughout the city for over 25 year and he was awarded a Certificate of Service from the Rome Sports Hall of Fame. He is survived by a sister, Gloria Izzo; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Carol Izzo; a grandson, Michael Izzo; two sisters-in-law, Julia Izzo and Joann Marsh; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sons, Jeffrey, Randy and Mark; four sisters, Mary Jane Stewart, Rosella Przelemiec, Dolores Twomey and Jean Moles; and four brothers, Orlando, Carmine Mario, and Edward. Bill’s family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care given to him by the 4th floor at Bethany Gardens. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Please consider a donation in Bill’s memory to the Activities Department at Bethany Gardens or the St. Peter’s Church Mission of the Christ Child. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
