John J. Belius, Sr., 88, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at Bethany Gardens. He was born in Rome on May 4, 1932, a son of the late Joseph and Ruth (O’Brien) Belius. He was a graduate of Saint Aloysius Academy and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. John was a truck driver for many years, having worked for Best Way Lines in Rome, Rich’s Trucking in Buffalo and Schaffer Trucking in Nebraska where he retired from in 2004. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church and the Stanwix Veterans and Men’s Club. John loved baseball especially his beloved Boston Red Sox. He was also an accomplished pianist. John was a very generous and giving person. He is survived by a son, Mark Belius; and grandchildren, Nolan and Erica. He was predeceased by a son, John J. Belius, Jr. and a granddaughter, Lauren. John's family would to thank his wonderful friends for their loving support, care and kindness during his later years. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 16th, at 2:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St. Rome. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the service from 12-2:00 p.m.
