Obituary of Janice C. Barnum

Janice C. Barnum 84, of Rome, New York, was called home on April 13, 2021. Janice was born in Rome, NY on March 8, 1937, a daughter of the late Stuart and Pearl (Worden) Armstrong. On June 23, 1980, she was united in marriage to Ted M. Barnum. He passed away December 12, 2020. Jan worked in the healthcare industry for many years, retiring from Rome Hospital. She was a ray of sunshine and could light up any room with her sweet smile and laugh. She was a kind soul. She spent her time with her husband traveling, shopping, and dining at their favorite restaurants. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family, especially for the holidays. Jan was full of life. She loved music and dancing. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Janice is survived by one son, Randy (Denise) Chandler, of Northbay, and three daughters, Kristie Chandler of Rome, Sharon (Martin) McNamara of Blossvale, and Carol (Keith) Pollard, of Georgia and a step-daughter Sandy (Dino) Righi of Ohio; four sisters, Lois Nobis, Donna Shepherd, Patricia Hocker, and Sydel Smith; fourteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ted; a son Ronald McMichael; two sisters, Eileen Millson and Sondra Forier; and two brothers, Robert and Ronald Armstrong. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn & Harper Funeral Home Inc. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Nurses and Aides on the 3rd floor at Rome Memorial Hospital. Also, a special thank you to Lisa, a surgical technician at Upstate Medical (Syracuse), who volunteered her extra time to sit with Jan to assist with feeding her and keeping her company since family was not able to see her. We are forever grateful for all you did, and this world needs more kind hearted people like you. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
